Kalmunai protesters reject solution, fast continues

A solution submitted by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to resolve a dispute which has led to a fast by some clergy and others in Kalmunai was rejected today.

The solution was taken to the protesters by a delegation which included Ministers Daya Gamage, Mano Ganesan and Parliamentarian M.A Sumanthiran.

However, the protesters rejected the proposal and decided to continue the fast.

A tense situation also arose when the delegation attempted to settle the dispute.

The protesters have been demanding for a separate separate Divisional Secretariat for Kalmunai North.

However, Muslim Parliamentarians have refused to accept such a move. (Colombo Gazette)

Two accomplices of Wele Suda arrested

Two accomplices of drug kingpin Gampola Vidanage Samantha Kumara alias “Wele Suda” have been arrested by the Police Special Task Force (STF). The STF said that the suspects were arrested with Rs. 7.5 million worth of heroin in their possession. The arrest was made during a raid carried out in Piliyandala and Ratmalana.
