President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed the relevant authorities to expedite investigations against those who are in custody under the Prevention of Terrorism Act for minor offences related to the Easter Sunday attack and release those who are innocent.
President Sirisena gave these instructions when the National Security Council convened at the Presidential Secretariat, the President’s Office said today.
Security arrangements and the prevailing situation in the country were discussed at a length during the meeting and the process to ensure national security was also reviewed.
The President emphasized the importance of continuing the current security arrangements that are in place at places of worship.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and several other Ministers, the Secretary of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, Commanders of the tri-forces, intelligence officers and the IGP were among those who were present at the Council meeting. (Colombo Gazette)
