Three employees of Minister Lakshman Kiriella’s Ministry, who were arrested over defamatory propaganda, have been released on bail.
They were arrested in May with 600 letters at the Colombo Central Mail Exchange defaming President Maithripala Sirisena and causing racial disharmony.
Kiriella had however said that his staffers had merely translated an article published in a website into Sinhala and tried to circulate it among temples and political activists.
Following the arrest the Police had raided Kiriella’s ministry premises at the World Trade Centre and seized printers and computers allegedly used to print the letters. (Colombo Gazette)
