Singapore offers to assist Sri Lanka to establish peace

Singapore would assist Sri Lanka in its efforts to establish peace in the Asian region, Singapore’s Law and Order Minister K Shanmugam said.

The Minister had made these remarks during a meeting with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who is on an official visit to Singapore, the Prime Minister’s Office said today.

During the discussion, the Prime Minister had discussed on how counter-terrorism measures could be collectively implemented by both countries.

Wickremesinghe had also discussed matters concerning social, economic, and political interests, the Prime Minister’s office said.

Singaporean Foreign Affairs Minister V. Balakrsihnan and Sri Lanka’s non-resident High Commissioner to Singapore Chandra Das were also present during the meetings. (Colombo Gazette)

Gates shut for over 20 CPC employees who went on strike

The gates have been shut for over 20 Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) employees who went on strike. Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said that the employees?who did not report to work today (29 March) were sent on compulsory leave and banned from entering the CPC premises. The Minister also said that fuel distribution had commenced at the Kolonnawa and Muthurajawela terminals this morning. UN body decries violations of civil and political rights in Sri Lanka

The UN Human Rights Committee (CCPR) has noted serious violations of civil and political rights in Sri Lanka and made over 60 recommendations.
