Cabinet approves proposal to ban import of chainsaws

Cabinet has approved a proposal to ban the import of chainsaws, the Government said. The proposal was made by President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment. The decision was taken in order to reduce the damage caused to the environment.

AG requests CJ to appoint 3-judge bench on Welikada Prison riot

The Attorney General has requested the Chief Justice to appoint a three judge bench to hear the case over the Welikada Prison riot in 2012 in which 27 inmates were killed.
