Australia says 58 Sri Lankans in Regional Processing Countries

Australia says 58 Sri Lankans are in Regional Processing Countries, as at 5 June 2019.

The Australian Department of Home Affairs said that the Governments of Australia and Sri Lanka continue to work in close co-operation to combat people smuggling in the region.

?Importantly, any individual who attempts to travel to Australia illegally by boat will never be permitted to resettle there,? a spokesperson from the Australian Department of Home Affairs said.

The spokesperson said that once Australia had met its international and domestic legal obligations, illegal immigrants from Sri Lanka were handed over to Sri Lankan authorities.

The spokesperson said that, as at 5 June 2019, there were 58 Sri Lankan nationals located in Regional Processing Countries. Of these, 43 were in Nauru and 15 in Papua New Guinea (PNG). (Colombo Gazette)

IDP families to receive financial assistance

As many as 2,175 internally displaced Tamil families in Jaffna and Trincomalee districts are set to receive a financial assistance of Rs. 38,000 per family for resettlement, The Hindu newspaper reported.
