MR suspects attempt made to postpone provincial polls

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa says the Government has gazetted the 20th Amendment to the Constitution with a view to postponing elections to the provincial councils. Protest in Parliament over payments for Samurdhi beneficiaries

The joint opposition today protested in Parliament over the?payments for Samurdhi beneficiaries. Speaker Karu Jayasuriya was forced to adjourn Parliament sittings as a result of the protests by the joint opposition. Navy arrests 49 Indian fishermen, 12 fishing trawlers detained

Fast Attack Craft attached to the?Northern Naval Command and Sir Lanka Coast Guard, whilst on routine patrol, arrested 49 Indian fishermen and impounded 12 fishing trawlers for trespassing into Sri Lankan territorial waters and engaging in illegal fishing last night (07, August) and this morning.
