SLFP-SLPP talks to continue despite differences of opinion

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) have decided to continue talks despite differences of opinion.

Both sides met today and discussed working together at the next election.

They later agreed to meet again for more talks on June 17.

The SLFP was represented at the talks today by SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara, MP Thilanga Sumathipala and Professor Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa.

The SLPP was represented by Professor G.L. Peiris and MP Dullas Alahapperuma.

Both sides have already held several rounds of talks but have failed to reach a final agreement.

EU GSP+ monitoring team briefs Sri Lanka on observations

The European Union (EU) GSP+ monitoring team has briefed Sri Lanka on its initial observations. Suspect arrested with weapon used to kill Chief Jailor

A suspect has been arrested with a weapon used to kill the Chief Jailor of the Weilkada Prison training school. The Police said that a 27 year old suspect was arrested with a T-56 weapon. The weapon was believed to have been used to kill the Chief Jailor in the Kuligoda area in Ambalangoda last month (August).
