Muslim Ministers who resigned to meet Chief Prelates

Muslim Ministers who resigned from their portfolios are to meet the Chief Prelates, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) leader Rauff Hakeem told Parliament today.

He said that the Muslim Parliamentarians will brief the monks over the decision taken to resign from their portfolios.

The Chief Prelates in Kandy had yesterday urged Muslim Ministers who had resigned from their portfolios this week, to resume their Government duties.

The Chief Prelates of all the Buddhist Chapters made the appeal after a special meeting held among the monks on the situation in the country.

Meanwhile, the Muslim Ministers who collectively resigned on Monday will submit individual resignation letters to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The Prime Minister told Parliament today that the Ministers had submitted a joint letter on Monday saying they were resigning.

However, he said he was later informed that they need to submit letters individually and so that process was now underway.

Hakeem said that as far as the Muslim Ministers are concerned they had resigned on Monday and what has arisen now is only a technical issue which will be sorted once the individual letters are submitted. (Colombo Gazette)
