Former Director of the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) DIG Nalaka De Silva told the Parliament Select Committee (PSC) on the Easter Sunday attacks today that Zaharan Hashim was being monitored as far back as 2017.
He said that his officers had earlier been focused only on the LTTE but after he took over he launched investigations into Muslim extremists.
Nalaka De Silva said that the TID had been investigating Zaharan Hashim on his instructions.
He said that the IGP was also briefed on concerns over Zaharan Hashim since the latter part of 2017.
Nalaka De Silva said that there were concerns over Zaharan promoting the Islamic State using Facebook.
“I had concerns Zaharan would influence young Muslims to engage in violence,” he said.
Nalaka De Silva said that the TID felt Zaharan was a threat and should be arrested. (Colombo Gazette)
