Hizbullah and Azath Salley resign

Eastern Province Governor M.L.A.M Hizbullah and Western Province Governor Azath Salley resigned from their posts today.

The President’s office said that they handed over their resignation letters to President Maithripala Sirisena.

President Sirisena, who had appointed the two Governors, accepted the resignation letters.

Hizbullah and Salley have been under pressure to resign after being accused of being linked to extremism.

Both Hizbullah and Salley however rejected the allegations. (Colombo Gazette)

Canada rocked by multiple deadly stabbings in Saskatchewan

At least 10 people have been killed and another 15 injured in a stabbing rampage in Canada’s central Saskatchewan province, police say. Gotabaya expected to return on Saturday

Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is expected to return to Sri Lanka on Saturday. Rajapaksa fled Sri Lanka following mass protests staged against him. The former President fled to the Maldives and then Singapore and Thailand.
