Opposition leader and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has closed the road opposite his house once again, Minister of Economic Reforms and Public Distribution Dr. Harsha de Silva said.
He claimed that Rajapaksa had instructed the defence authorities that Wijerama Mawatha, located opposite Rajapaksa’s house, be closed once again after it was briefly opened the other day.
“So now again all 4 lanes are closed for traffic. Only boru show visiting schools,” Dr. Harsha de Silva tweeted.
However, Rajapaksa told Parliament today that he never asked for Wijerama Mawatha to be closed.
There has been outrage on social media about roads being closed for VIP vehicle movements and for security reasons, causing inconvenience to the public.
President Maithripala Sirisena later issued instructions not to close roads for VIP movements. (Colombo Gazette)
