Police deny claims NTJ doctor sterilized 4000 women

The Police have denied claims they are investigating an incident of a National Thowheed Jamath (NTJ) doctor who had allegedly sterilized 4000 Sinhalese Buddhist women.

The Police have said that they never received such a complaint.

The allegation was made in a local Sinhalese newspaper today.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said that considering the seriousness of the headline story he made inquiries about the claims from the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

“Both top officers denied they were aware of any such investigation. Responsible journalism is a mandatory pillar of a healthy democracy. Long way to go,” the Speaker tweeted. (Colombo Gazette)
