Concerns were raised today over the safety of Parliament following the arrest of two suspects believed to have been linked to the Easter Sunday attacks.
Joint Opposition Parliamentarian Dinesh Gunawardena told Parliament that there was a concern over the safety of Parliament, especially after a second suspect was arrested.
Opposition Parliamentarian Rohitha Abeygunawardena said that since one suspect was working for the Road Development Authority in the Parliament premises there are fears bombs may have been planted on the road.
Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa said that if Parliament is attacked he hopes the attack takes place when the Prime Minister is in Parliament.
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said that all steps have been taken to ensure tight security in Parliament.
He said that Parliament is also carefully checked before sessions begin. (Colombo Gazette)
