Army chief reveals Minister made “request” after suspect was arrested

Army Commander Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayaka today revealed that a Minister had made a “request” from him after a suspect was arrested in Dehiwala over the Easter Sunday attacks.

Senanayaka was responding to a question raised by a journalist over media reports that Minister Rishad Bathiudeen had demanded the Army Commander to release a suspect arrested in Dehiwala.

The Army Commander said that when he was contacted by the Minister at first he did not have the information required and later he told the Minister to call him again in a few years time.

Former MP Premalal Jayasekera sentenced to death

The Ratnapura High Court today imposed death sentences on former Parliamentarian Premalal Jayasekara and two others. Jayasekara was found guilty over a murder committed during the 2015 Presidential election and was sentenced today.
