Probe on assault on individual in Nawala

An investigation is underway after an individual had reported that he was assaulted in Nawala yesterday.

He was assaulted by a group of men who arrived in a three-wheeler.

According to reports, the man had arrived home in Nawala in a cab and was about to walk down a lane leading to his house when around 4-5 men arrived in a three-wheeler.

They had asked for the ID of the individual but he had refused to submit it as the men were not the Police or military.

He was then assaulted by at least one man and later the group had left. (Colombo Gazette)

President reportedly not happy with subjects given to Ravi

Over 840,000 affected by drought in parts of the country

Over 840,000 people have been affected by drought in parts of the country, despite rain being experienced in other areas. The Disaster Management Centre said that as of noon today?849,752 people have been affected by drought in eleven districts. According to the Disaster Management Centre?243,683 families have been affected by the drought. Among the areas affected are Jaffna, Kurunegala, Batticaloa and Ampara. (Colombo Gazette)
