Police curfew imposed in Kuliyapitiya, Bingiriya, Dummalasuriya

A Police curfew has been imposed in the Kuliyapitiya, Bingiriya and Dummalasuriya Police divisions until 6 am today (Monday) to control a tense situation, the Police said.

A tense situation arose after some Muslim owned shops had been attacked by a mob earlier this evening.

A large crowd later gathered outside the Kuliyapitiya Police station demanding the release of suspects arrested over the incident.

The Army was deployed to provide protection to the Kuliyapitiya Police station.

Earlier, the Police had also imposed a curfew in the Chilaw area after tensions arose between Muslims and Sinhalese.

The Police have warned that tough action will be taken against anyone disrupting the peace. (Colombo Gazette)

Peliyagoda fish market shut after traders test positive for coronavirus

The Peliyagoda fish market has been temporarily closed after a number of traders tested positive for the coronavirus. Public Health Inspectors (PHI) said that at least 49 traders at the fish market had tested positive for the virus.
