President Maithripala Sirisena today said that he will take legal action on officials who failed to carry out their duties resulting in the Easter Sunday attacks.
Speaking in Ampara, the President said that a committee appointed by him to investigate incidents related to the bombings has already submitted two interim reports to him.
He said that a third report is expected to be handed over to him next week.
The President said that based on the reports he will take legal action on officials accused of failing to prevent the attacks.
He also said that he will not resign over the attacks and will ensure terrorism is defeated.
The President said that when terrorists attacked the US on 9/11 and when other countries were also attacked there were never calls for the President to step down.
He said that despite having sophisticated technology even the US could not prevent terrorist attacks on their soil.
Sirisena said that Sri Lanka is today a divided country and steps must be taken to unite the communities. (Colombo Gazette)
