Madush questioned on crimes organised while overseas

Notorious underworld leader Makandure Madush is being questioned on crimes organised by him and committed in Sri Lanka while he was overseas, the Police said.

Police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera said that the Criminal Investigations Department is questioning Madush.

He was deported from Dubai and arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) yesterday.

Madush was arrested when he arrived in the country after being deported.

He was taken to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Colombo to be questioned.

Madush was among several Sri Lankans arrested at a hotel in Dubai in February at a party.

Most of them arrested were drug dealers and other criminals.

All except Madush were deported to Sri Lanka. Madush had appealed against being deported. (Colombo Gazette)

Lankan man arrested in Canada over 2009 restaurant fire

A Sri Lankan man believed to have left Canada in the wake of a fire at a restaurant in Woodstock, Canada is now in the custody of Canadian authorities.
