Chief Prelates urge authorities to postpone opening schools

The Chief Prelates (Mahanayake) of the Malwatte and Asgiriya chapters today urged the authorities to postpone opening Government schools.

The Chief Prelates of the Malwathu and Asgiriya chapters, the Venerable Thibbotuwawa Sri Sumangala Thero and the Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thero said that normalcy had not yet returned to the country following the Easter Sunday attacks.

They said that concerns have been raised by parents and others over the security of the children.

As a result the Chief Prelates urged the authorities to postpone opening Government schools for the second term.

Senior grades of Government schools are set to open for the second term tomorrow while junior grades will open a week later.
