Navy arrests Indian fishermen in Lankan waters

The navy arrested 14 Indian fishermen while they were?poaching in Sri Lankan waters in the seas North of Thalaimannar yesterday. The navy media unit said that?three?Indian fishing trawlers were also taken into custody. The Indian fishermen along with the trawlers were handed over to the officials of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Mannar for further action.

IDP families to receive financial assistance

As many as 2,175 internally displaced Tamil families in Jaffna and Trincomalee districts are set to receive a financial assistance of Rs. 38,000 per family for resettlement, The Hindu newspaper reported. Two hundred and four families in Sampur, Trincomalee district of the Eastern Province, and 1,971 families in Jaffna of the Northern Province will get the assistance initially. Sajin de Vass further remanded

United Peoples Alliance Freedom Alliance (UPFA) MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardena was today further remanded when he was produced in court. The former Foreign Ministry Monitoring MP was?arrested by the police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) last month. He was arrested over allegations of misusing vehicles belonging to the Presidential Secretariat. (Colombo Gazette)
