President tells Defence Secretary and IGP to resign

President Maithripala Sirisena has requested Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara to resign.

The President sought their resignations over the Easter Sunday suicide attacks.

President Maithripala Sirisena had yesterday insisted that he was in the dark with regards to an intelligence report warning of suicide attacks in Sri Lanka.

Addressing the nation yesterday, the President said that he had decided to make drastic changes in the security establishment over the next 24 hours.

Sirisena, who is also the Minister of Law and Order, said that if he was alerted in advance he would have taken steps to prevent the attacks from taking place.

He said that he will take stern action on those who failed to inform him of the intelligence report. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. About time
And we as tax payers would like to know what legal action will be instituted on those whose negligence caused so many deaths and damage
So other govt official s who enjoy perks at tax payers expense will know that they need to perform

  2. First step towards accountability.Stern and immediate measures must be taken further in the process of all inquiries and bring it to a finish.these inquiries should not lag for years.
if these inquires lead to other individuals who were irresponsible in their duty stern action should be taken on them too.
    Thank you

    • LTTTE biased tamil diaspora shall be hanged for falsely accusing SL armed forces personnel and jeopardizing national security. Tamils are responsible for the innocent lives lost.

  3. TNA and NGO s are responsible for the innocent lives lost. They were striving to glorify Mahaweera Suryadevan Prabhakaran at the cost of the national security. It is hilarious if they still say Prabha who died like a dog is still alive !
