BIA operations run smoothly despite day-time closure

Operations at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) have been running smoothly despite the day-time closure of the airport to overlay the runway. Officials said that there was no rush to be seen among passengers during operational hours in the nights when the airport is in operation. The BIA will be closed for eight hours daily between 08.30 a.m. and 04.30 p.m?till April 05, 2017. ?(Colombo Gazette)

Over 30 arrested for violating court order and protesting

Over 30 people have been arrested for violating a court order and protesting in Hambantota this morning. Several?people were injured during a tense situation in Hambantota when protesters defied a court order and staged a protest near the venue of the launch of the Sri Lanka-China Industrial Zone Development Project. At least 27 people sought treatment at the Hambantota hospital after stones were pelted towards the police and the venue of the project and the police retaliated with water cannon
