Speaker urged to investigate Foreign Ministry communiqu?

Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya has been requested to investigate a communiqu? issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in November last year during the political crisis.

United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarian Mujibur Rahuman has written to the Speaker calling for action to be taken against the Foreign Ministry.

In the letter, the UNP MP says the Foreign Ministry had issued a communiqu? via fax to all Mission Heads saying Parliament had been dissolved.

The communiqu? was signed by the then Foreign Minister Sarath Amunugama.

The reason given to dissolve Parliament was the behaviour of the Speaker of Parliament.

Rahuman says the communiqu? harms the dignity of the Office of the Speaker of Parliament and so must be investigated. (Colombo Gazette)

Rishad ordered to appear in court

Minister Rishad Bathiudeen was ordered by the court of appeal today to be present in court on September 5 and show cause as to why he should not be punished over the threats on the Mannar Magistrate. Narahempita brothel raided

The police have raided a brothel which was operating in Narahempita and arrested four people. According to the police media unit among those arrested were two women from Thailand who were operating as prostitutes from the brothel. All those who were arrested by a special police unit were handed over to the Narahempita police for further investigations. They are to be produced before court today, the police said.
