Sri Lanka and Finland discuss collaboration in energy and other areas

The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Finland, resident in Norway Prof. Arusha Cooray, presented her Credentials to President Sauli Niinist? of Finland in Helsinki, the Foreifn Ministry said today.

Following the presentation of Credentials, Ambassador Cooray and President Niinist? discussed the potential for increased tourism, and collaboration in the areas of digitalization, health, education, forestry and energy between the two countries.

The Ambassador also met with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education of Finland, members of the private sector, the Honorary Consul for Sri Lanka in Finland and the Director of UNU-WIDER.

She also did a presentation on Sri Lanka, at UNU-WIDER.

Court orders ban on Kuwaiti couple from leaving Sri Lanka

The Negombo Magistrate’s Court today ordered the Immigration and Emigration Department to prevent a couple from Kuwait from leaving the country. The Kuwaiti couple had been accused over the weekend of injuring five customs officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA). The incident took place when the?customs officers had requested that a pet dog with the couple be quarantined. The couple were later arrested over the incident. (Colombo Gazette)

Chinese man arrested while attempting to bribe Mahaweli officer

A Chinese man has been arrested for attempting to bribe a?Mahaweli officer. The Chinese man had reportedly offered Rs. 20,000 to the Divisional Manager of the Mahaweli Divisional Office in Angunakolapelessa as a bribe to get clearance for some work . According to reports, the Mahaweli officer had filed a Police complaint over the incident and the Chinese man was arrested. (Colombo Gazette)
