Over 240,000 people have been affected in the Kalutara District after salt water seeped into the Kalu Ganga river, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said today.
The DMC said that salt water intrusion into the river has so far affected 244,065 people.
This includes residents in Kalutara, Beruwala, Mathugama, Panadura, Agalawatta, Madurawela, Palindanuwara, Millaniya, Horana and Dodangoda.
Meanwhile, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board said that water from the Kathhena purification plant in Kalutara will not be recommended for drinking as a result of the sea water intrusion into the Kalu Ganga. (Colombo Gazette)
