Suspects arrested over Rathgama murder further remanded

Seventeen suspects arrested over the murder of two businessmen in Rathgama have been further remanded till April 22.

The two businessmen, Manjula Asela and Rasheen Chinthaka, had been reported missing since January 23 this year.

Investigations later revealed that the two businessmen in Rathgama had been killed and the bodies were later burnt.

Human hair and bones believed to be that of the two businessmen had been found from the Walasmulla, Madagamgoda forest.

Investigations revealed that the two businessmen were abducted by men dressed in clothes similar to that of the Police.

They were kept in a house, killed and the bodies were later burnt.?(Colombo Gazette)

Six-member committee to probe Kurunegala doctor

A six-member committee has been appointed to investigate the allegations against the doctor in Kurunegala. The committee has been appointed by the Ministry of Health and includes doctors specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. The doctor, Seigu Siyabdeen Mohamed Shafi, on suspicion over his assets. It was later revealed that the doctor had performed nearly 8000 illegal sterilization operations.

Court of Appeal decides to hear fresh case on Wilpattu resettlement

The Court of Appeal has decided to hear a fresh case on the resettlement of families in Wilpattu. The case will be heard against Minister Rishad Bathiudeen from July 31. Bathiudeen has been accused of clearing forest area adjacent to Wilpattu to resettle several Muslim families. However the Minister has denied the allegations saying the area had been cleared prior to 2012 and was approved by the former Government.
