Speaker holds talks with Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya had talks with Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Qatar.

The Peninsula reported that Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani had met separately with Karu Jayasuriya, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, Krishna Bahadur Mahara, First Deputy Speaker of the Riksdag (Swedish Parliament), Asa Lindestam and Vice-President of the Bundestag (German Parliament), Claudia Roth, on the sidelines of the 140th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

During the meetings, they discussed bilateral relations, ways of supporting and developing them, as well as matters of mutual interest. (Colombo Gazette)

Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) leader Kumar Gunaratnam has been granted Sri Lankan citizenship. Gunaratnam, an Australian citizen, was last year?sentenced to one year in jail for violating local immigration laws. He was later freed and he sought Sri Lankan citizenship. (Colombo Gazette)

Train runs over nine-foot crocodile in Kekirawa

A train ran over a?nine-foot crocodile in Kekirawa today resulting in the?crocodile suffering serious injuries. The Wildlife Department said that the?crocodile had been crossing the railway tracks when it was run-over by the train.
