Strict laws to be implemented to control sound polluting vehicle horns

The Police have been given instructions to take stern action against vehicles with sound pollution causing horns, the Ministry of Defence and Law and Order said today.

Secretary of Defence Hemasiri Fernando issued the instructions to the Police at a meeting, on the advise of President Maithripala Sirisena.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Traffic) Ajith Rohana was instructed to take measures to educate all police stations in the country to implement laws against vehicles violating regulations with horns of more than 105 decibels.

All private bus owners’ associations and other institutions present at the meeting agreed to the implementation of the law.

In addition, holding a ‘Silent Day’ with the participation of school children, passengers and drivers was also discussed at the meeting. (Colombo Gazette)
