SLPP warns SLFP on talks ahead of final budget vote

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) today warned the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) that talks to form an alliance might be at risk depending on the stand the SLFP takes during the final vote on the 2019 budget later this week.

SLPP Chairman, Professor G.L Peiris said that the SLFP had decided to vote against the budget during the second reading but at the last moment abstained.

He said that the SLFP has a chance to rectify things during the final vote on Friday after the third reading on the 2019 budget.

Peiris said that the main goal of the SLPP and the SLFP has been to defeat the economic policies of the United National Party (UNP).

The SLPP and SLFP have had two rounds of talks so far on forming an alliance and the third round is scheduled to take place next week.

Peiris said that SLPP supporters are asking the question how the SLPP can form an alliance with the SLFP if it is protecting the UNP when the goal should be to defeat it. (Colombo Gazette)
