Originating from the Indian sub continent, Holi is a festival of culture, colour and celebration. The festival is significant for the arrival of spring and has become a popular festival .

?HOLI ON THE BEACH? was held on Saturday 23^rd March 2019.? COLIND, an association of Indians living in Colombo collaborated with Mount Lavinia Hotel for a day of colourful merriment at the haven under the sun ? Paradise Beach.

The event was patronized by a number of expats and locals as well. Attendees took to the dance floor as the Bollywood music played and keeping in line with the events? tradition a vibrant display of smearing took place.

From Dhol drummers to rain dances and an exceptional selection of Indian food, participants of this year?s festival would say it was nothing short of memorable.? In addition to the ceremonious splendor of colour and fun, this year world renowned mixologist Anthonio and a team from Italy flew down adding some flair with special cocktails.

Speech Festival brings out the best speakers

The speech component of the Festival for the Performing Arts organized by the Institute of Music, Speech and Speaking Skills concluded with the Best Performance competition recently. Running in its 15th year, the Speech Festival took place in 31 centres over a period of 6 weeks, in three centres simultaneously. Directress of the IMSSS, Kamini Perera noted that over 6000 competitors took part this year. Of these numbers, 37 were chosen for the coveted awards at the Best Performers? Competition.
