Iranian vessel detained with heroin in Sri Lankan waters

An Iranian vessel transporting heroin has been detained in Sri Lankan waters and has been brought ashore.

The Police said that 107.22 kg of heroin said to be worth over Rs. 1 Billion was found in the trawler.

The Navy said that nine Iranians were arrested and handed over to the Police.

The vessel was detained in a special operation conducted by the Police and Navy in the southern seas.

The vessel was escorted to the Colombo harbour.

Investigations revealed that the crew of the vessel had dumped part of the heroin at sea.

The vessel is believed to have arrived from Pakistan when it was detected and detained in the southern seas.

Investigators also said that they suspect the vessel is linked to notorious underworld leader Makandure Madush who was detained in Dubai recently. (Colombo Gazette)

Harsha tells CMC to remove offensive hoarding in Rajagiriya

Deputy Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs Dr Harsha de Silva says he has called for the removal of an offensive hoarding in Rajagiriya.
