Protests cripple Colombo, Police fire water and tear gas

Protests crippled Colombo today forcing the Police to fire water cannons and tear gas to disperse the protests.

University students and a group against moves to dump garbage at a site in Puttalam staged two separate protests in Colombo today.

The protests resulted in huge traffic blocks being experienced in parts of Colombo.

The Police fired tear gas and water cannons on the protest staged by the University students near the University Grant’s Commission (UGC). (Colombo Gazette)
