Over 2000 Indians, 6,500 Sri Lankans attend Katchatheevu festival

Over 2000 Indians attended the historic Katchatheevu festival today.

The Sri Lanka Navy said that 2100 Indians and 6,500 Sri Lankan Catholic devotees attended the festival.?The Indians reached Katchatheevu by boat.

St. Anthony’s Sacred Church on Katchatheevu Island located in close proximity to the Indo-Sri Lanka Maritime Boundary Line, has long been the pinnacle of reverence of both Indian and Sri Lankan Catholic devotees.

The annual feast of the St. Anthony’s Church was celebrated was conducted conducted by Reverend Father Joseph Lurduraj of India and Reverend ?Father Robinson Wijesinghe.

The sacred occasion was attended by the Bishop of Jaffna, His Lordship Rt. Reverend Dr. Justin Gnanapragasam, the Indian Council General in Jaffna S. Balachandran, Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, Commander of the Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Meril Wickramasinghe, Senior Naval officers and a large number of Tri Forces and Police personnel. Officials on alert over Victoria Dam following tremors in Kandy

Government defends Sinharaja forest road project

The Government today defended the Sinharaja forest road project saying it is not a new road but an existing one which has now been developed.
