The government has decided that news websites to be registered with the Media Ministry must pay a registration fee and an annual fee. Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told the weekly cabinet press briefing today that accordingly news websites must pay Rs. 100,000 (US$ 1000) to register and also Rs. 50,000 (US$ 500) annually. UN examines Lanka?s missing

The United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances examined cases of missing people including urgent cases in Sri Lanka during its 97th session in Geneva which ended today, the working group said in a statement. Soldier remanded for molesting a child

A soldier attached to the Ambepussa army camp has been remanded over allegations he molested a 6 year old child. The soldier, identified as Athula Kumara, had molested the child near her home in the Kotawehera area last morning. Following a police complaint over the incident the soldier was arrested and produced in court today and remanded by the judge. Investigations had revealed that the soldier had molested another girl in 2010 and there was also a pending case against him at another court
