Army releases more private land in the North

The Sri Lanka Army has released more private land occupied by the military in the North, the Army media unit said today.

The Army said that the land was released as part of its commitment to return state and private lands being used by the Security Forces in the North and East of the country.

A total of 19.72 acres of land in Myladdy north and east inside the Palaly Army Cantonment and a portion adjoining it were released on Monday.

A small portion (0.25 acres) of the released land in Myladdy belongs to the State while the remainder is owned by private owners.

The simple symbolic ceremony to release the land took place at the Thelippalai Divisional Secretariat in the presence of State officials and land owners.

Major General Dharshana Hettiaarachchi, Commander, Security Forces – Jaffna symbolizing the formal release of those lands handed over the relevant documents to the District Secretary for Jaffna, N. Vethanayahan who was present, together with Thelippalai Divisional Secretary, State officials in both Jaffna and Thelippalai Secretariats, civilians and land owners. (Colombo Gazette)

Ceypetco snubs PUCSL invite to discuss discrepancies

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (Ceypetco) has not responded to an invitation from the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) to meet and discuss discrepancies at some CPC fuel stations. PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ratnayake said that while LIOC had attended talks with the PUCSL the State owned Ceypetco had not. Sanath Nishantha released by court after stern warning

State Minister Sanath Nishantha was released by the Court of Appeal today after being issued a stern warning. The court had issued a warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear in court today to show cause over the contempt of court charges levelled against him.
