Ruwan demands resignation of SLRC chairperson

Non Cabinet Minister of Mass Media and State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardena has demanded the resignation of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) chairperson Inoka Sathyangani. Wijewardena has also appointed?Sanjeewa Wijegunawardena as the new Chairman of SLRC. In a letter to Wijegunawardena he has been informed of his appointment as the new Chairman. Sathyangani was appointed Rupavahini Chairperson when Mangala Samaraweera was the Media Minister.

Popular maths teacher arrested over assault on van driver

A popular mathematics teacher has been arrested over an incident where a van driver was assaulted, which went viral on social media. The Police said that Dinesh Nuwan Amaratunga was arrested and remanded together with seven others until the 29th of July. The suspects had been arrested over the assault on a van driver in Kalagedihena. State of emergency extended by another month

President Maithripala Sirisena has extended the state of emergency by another month with effect from today. A gazette notice was issued today announcing the extension of the state of emergency. The state of emergency was declared soon after the April 21st suicide attacks for a period of one month and has been extended since then. Parliament will now need to meet to approve or reject the extension.?(Colombo Gazette)
