President Maithripala Sirisena today said that he will not forget the role played by United National Party Parliamentarian and Minister John Amaratunga during the 2015 Presidential elections.
Sirisena said that Amaratunga was able to continue in politics for several years as he was accepted by the public as he worked for the people.
The President was speaking at an event held today to coincide with Amaratunga completing 40 years in politics.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa and former President Chandrika Kumaratunga were among those who attended the event. (Colombo Gazette)
