Interim order issued against appointing interns to State Hospitals

The Supreme Court issued an injunction order today on the Ministry of Health against the appointment of interns to State Hospitals.

The order was issued following the submission of an application by PC Upul Jaysuriya and PC Kolitha Dharmawardena who appeared on behalf of medical graduates from the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM).

The three judge bench comprising of Justice Prasanna Jayawardena,? Justice Thurairajah and Justice Preethi Padman Soorasena, issued the injunction order.

The order was issued after the Ministry of Health? decided to absorb an intake of interns while excluding SAITM graduates who were given an SC directive to be registered provisionally by the Sri Lanka Medical Council.

However SLMC has thus far defied the SC directive and a Contempt of court case has been filed in the Court of Appeal by PC Romesh de Silva appearing on behalf of the SAITM medical graduates. (Colombo Gazette)
