Cardinal Ranjith commends Speaker’s efforts

His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith has commended Speaker Karu Jayasuriya for his exceptional role as Speaker of Parliament. These comments were made when Speaker Jayasuriya visited Cardinal Ranjith today(11) to present his biography. During the meeting Cardinal Ranjith had pointed out that Jayasuriya had been an honest politician throughout his career. Jayasuriya speaking to media said there were only three more sessions prior to the end of the tenure of the Parliament.

Batticaloa court further remands 61 suspects arrested over NTJ links

A court in Batticaloa today further remanded 61 suspects arrested over alleged links to the banned National Thowheeth Jama?ath (NTJ). The 61 suspects were arrested following the Easter Sunday attacks in April this year. The suspects were produced before the court today and further remanded till 28 February. The suspects were suspected of receiving arms training prior to the arrest.
