Government threatens to scrap monopoly given to SriLankan

The Government has threatened to scrap the monopoly given to SriLankan Airlines for flights operating between Colombo and some international destinations. Minister of Ports and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva told Parliament that he had a discussion with international airline operators and requested them to expand operations between Colombo and global destinations. He said that he offered airlines to operate direct flights to destinations from Colombo earlier granted only to SriLankan Airline

Popular astrologer Indika Thotawaththa arrested

Popular astrologer Indika Thotawaththa has been arrested and remanded for making statements which could threaten harmony among ethnic and religious groups in Sri Lanka. Thotawaththa was arrested based on a complaint made with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).?The astrologer had made comments critical of Islam. MP fears Sri Lanka blocking ferry service with India

Illangai Tamil Arasu Katchi MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam today raised fears of the Sri Lankan Government attempting to block the launch of a ferry service between India and Sri Lanka. Rasamanickam told Parliament that several Sri Lankan refugees in Tamil Nadu are keen to return to Sri Lanka by ferry with some of their goods which they cannot transport by plane.
