Chinese cultural fair held in Sri Lanka to mark Chinese New Year

A Chinese cultural fair was declared open in Sri Lanka on Friday night to mark the Chinese New Year.

The Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Cheng Xueyuan and Sri Lanka’s Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Champika Ranawaka declared open the fair.

Happy Chinese New Year, the third Chinese Cultural Fair organized by the Chinese Embassy in Colombo in collaboration with China Cultural Center in Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Oversees Chinese Association, is being held at the Arcade of Independence Square in Colombo from 15th to 19th February 2019.

Several Chinese based in Colombo as well as tourists attended the opening day of the fair.

The fair includes cultural performance, handcraft demonstrations, traditional lanterns and Chinese traditional food.

The Chinese Embassy said that the fair is open to the public for free.

The fair will start from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM every night from 15th to 19th February. The cultural performance will start at 7:00 PM on 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th and will start at 8:00 PM on 19th February.

The Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development, Urban Development Authority, Colombo Municipal Council and Police Department have rendered support for the event, the Chinese Embassy said.
