Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa today insisted that the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) will only back an SLPP member to be its Presidential candidate.
Rajapaksa, considered the brains behind the SLPP, said that no one has a right to push SLPP members to back a non-SLPP member to be President.
Rajapaksa had expressed these views at a meeting with some SLPP members today.
The SLPP media unit said that the SLPP members had noted that a lot is being said these days with regards to the next Presidential elections.
The SLPP members had raised concerns over moves to nominate a non-SLPP member as the SLPP Presidential candidate at the next elections.
Rajapaksa had then assured that the SLPP leadership will not push SLPP members to back anyone who does not have their support to be the Presidential candidate. (Colombo Gazette)
