CID questions Wimal on VIP assassination plot

Joint opposition Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa appeared before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today to make a statement over the alleged plot to assassinate President Maithripala Sirisena and other VIPs.

Weerawansa was issued notice to appear before the CID today.

Activist?Namal Kumara had revealed last year that there was a plot to assassinate the President and other VIPs including former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Former Police DIG Nalaka De Silva was later arrested and questioned over the alleged plot. (Colombo Gazette)

Air Force rescues six people trapped in Mullaitivu

The?Air Force rescued six people trapped in Mullaitivu after a dam broke and water flooded the area. The Air Force said that the dam in Alampil Niththakay broke resulting in a village in the area being flooded. Six people trapped in the area were rescued using a Mi-17 helicopter.
