Group of 83 refugees to return from Tamil Nadu

A group of 83 refugees will be returning to Sri Lanka from Tamil Nadu on Tuesday through the process facilitated by?the Colombo office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said.

Thousands of Tamils fled Sri Lanka to Tamil Nadu between 1983-1984 and were housed in refugee camps across Tamil Nadu.

Over the past few years a number of refugees had returned voluntarily with the assistance of the UN refugee agency.

The government has also encouraged the refugees to return and is involved in facilitating the process and offering other forms of support. (Colombo Gazette)

Northern Provincial Council delegation to visit India

A Northern Provincial Council (NPC) delegation is to visit India next week. The NPC delegation is to take part in seminars in India on an invitation extended to them. At least 16 NPC members are to visit India from October 8 to October 14.

Court bans protest around Boosa detention camp

An order has been issued by a court in Galle against the holding of any protests around the Boosa detention camp. The order was issued following threats by some groups to stage a protest against the Rohingya refugees given protection at the camp.
