Singapore President notes strong ties with Sri Lanka

President Maithripala Sirisena, who is on a visit to Singapore to attend the Asia Pacific Forum of Environment Ministers and Heads of Environment Authorities, held a meeting with the President of Singapore Madam Halimah Yacob today.

The President of Singapore said in a statement that Singapore and Sri Lanka enjoy warm relations with cooperation dating back almost 50 years when both countries first established diplomatic ties.

“We cooperate on a wide range of areas, from trade and investment to scientific research. Our people-to-people ties are strong and there are many Sri Lankans living and working in Singapore,” she said.

Yacob said that she had an exchange of views with President Sirisena on Singapore and Sri Lanka’s healthcare and education systems and reaffirmed the friendship between the two countries. (Colombo Gazette)
