SLPP to oppose process to submit new Constitution

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) says it will oppose the process being followed by the Government to submit a new Constitution to Parliament.

SLPP Chairman, Professor G.L Peiris said that the Government is attempting to submit a new Constitution to Parliament before February 4th.

He noted that the Government has already submitted reports related to the new Constitution to Parliament.

Professor G.L Peiris said that the SLPP is against the process being followed by the Government to submit a new Constitution.

He insisted that the process being followed will lead to unnecessary issues in the country. (Colombo Gazette)

Four injured following clash at fuel station

Four people sustained injuries following a clash at a fuel station in Wellawaya. The Police said that the four people sustained injuries during the clash which involved people waiting for fuel. Token system to obtain fuel from tomorrow

A token system will be introduced for motorists to obtain fuel from tomorrow, Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said today. He said that the military will distribute the tokens at fuel stations to motorists. The Minister said that the decision was taken by the National Security Council. Sri Lankan residents permitted to have maximum of USD 10,000

The maximum amount of foreign currency retained in possession by a person in, or resident in, Sri Lanka has been reduced from USD 15,000 to USD 10,000 or its equivalent in other foreign currencies.
