Cabinet approves declaring Theravada Tripitaka a National heritage

Cabinet has approved a proposal by President Maithripala Sirisena to declare the Theravada Tripitaka a National heritage.

Earlier this month, at a ceremony held in Matale, the President had declared the Theravada Tripitaka a National heritage.

“To uphold the Sri Lankan heritage, reflecting values of Buddhism as an integral part that further sustains our culture, I’m declaring the Theravada Tripiṭaka as a national treasure of Sri Lanka,” the President had said at the Matale event.

The Cabinet which met today had decided to approve the move. (Colombo Gazette)
