Sri Lanka in talks with China to import hybrid buses?

Sri Lanka is in talks with China to import hybrid buses to be included in the state public transport service.

State Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation?Ashoka Abeysinghe said that he was having talks with investors to purchase the buses from China.

He said that the Government is looking at introducing modern, air-conditioned buses to operate in Colombo and other major cities.

“I went to China a couple of months back and visited Chinese companies. They have hydrogen buses, hybrid buses and electric buses. We are looking at importing?hybrid buses as we do not have enough charging stations to have?electric buses,” he said.

He said that the procurement plan to purchase the buses from China has been finalised and they hope to expedite the process and open tenders within 28 weeks.

The State Minister said that Sri Lanka is also looking to import buses from India to strengthen the public transport service. (Colombo Gazette)
