CC unanimously approves nomination to replace Eva

The Constitutional Council (CC) has approved the nomination made by?President Maithripala Sirisena to replace?Supreme Court judge Eva Wanasundera.

Eva Wanasundera had retired as a?Supreme Court judge and the President had nominated a replacement.

The CC which met today unanimously approved the nomination of the President.

The Constitutional Council, chaired by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, also reconfirmed the nominations made by President Maithripala Sirisena for the appointment of three Supreme Court judges and one Court of Appeal judge. (Colombo Gazette)

SC extends order against dumping garbage in Muthurajawela

The Supreme Court today extended an order against the dumping of garbage in the Muthurajawela?sanctuary. The order was initially issued till today but when the case was heard today the Supreme Court extended the order till July 25. Parts of Malabe and Athurugiriya in the dark since yesterday

Parts of Malabe and Athurugiriya had been in the dark for several hours since yesterday owing to a breakdown in the electricity supply. Residents of the area told the Colombo Gazette that when contacted the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) breakdown team in the area had refused to attend to the repairs.
